Family History
Blacktown City Library holds and maintains a substantial collection of resources for people engaged in tracing their family history. An area of the Reference Section at Max Webber Library, Blacktown is allocated for family history research.
Most of the material available is of Australian content,however some international records are available. The online database, Ancestry Library Edition, contains many international records, with an emphasis on United Kingdom and United States. Access to this database is free at any branch of the library, for library members.
Resources include:
- indexes to births, deaths and marriages for all Australian states, on microfiche and CD-ROM (where available)
- International Genealogical Index
- Colonial Secretary's Papers 1788-1825
- Sand's Directory, Sydney and N.S.W.
- electoral Rolls 1903-1928
- probate Indexes for N.S.W.
- censuses and musters
- books of genealogical interest and content
- microfilmed copies of selected newspapers
- guide to family history resources which is regularly updated.
This collection is available for use at Max Webber Library, Blacktown only.
Items in the Family History collection must be used in the library. Where possible however, some duplicate material has been placed in the general nonfiction lending collection.
Blacktown City Council Library Service also maintains a collection of Local Studies material, which may be of some use to Family History researchers.
