Home Library Service
Do you or someone you know want to go to the library, but are unable to travel due to serious illness or disability? Then we might have the solution for you.
Blacktown City Libraries provide a free home delivery service to residents unable to visit one of our branches in person. The Home Library Service is provided to eligible individuals in their own homes, hostels and nursing homes.
Who is eligible?
Residents of the Blacktown area who have difficulty visiting the library and can provide:
- A doctor's certificate
- A Home Library Service Card signed by a doctor or registered nurse that supports the client's claim of being unable to visit the library due to illness, frailty or disability.
What can a Home Library Service Client borrow?
You will be able to borrow items from the following collections:
- Fiction
- Non-Fiction
- Large Print
- Spoken Word on CD
- DVDs, CDs and MP3 CDs
- Materials in community languages
- Learning English language kits
- We can deliver your items on a 2 week or 4 week cycle. We will arrange this with you when you join our service.
Can a Home Library Service Client request a particular item?
- Yes. To request a particular item in our collection to be delivered please contact the Home Library Service Team on 9839 6687 or reserve it online through our online catalogue.
When I go on holidays, or go to hospital, what do I do to stop the service for a short while?
- Just keep us informed so we know what is going on and we can stop and start the delivery program as you need it.
I am a diversional therapist at a nursing home in the Blacktown Local Government Area. Can I access this service too?
- Yes. We can organise bulk loans for residents, or even assist in addressing the needs of individual residents. Please contact our Home Library Service Team on 9839 6687 to make an appointment.
