Reservations

Requesting items from other branches of Blacktown City Libraries

The Library has an inter-branch delivery service which operates Monday to Friday(except public holidays). If you would like to borrow an item which is available at another branch library, this may be reserved free of charge. Items which are currently on loan to other library users may also be reserved free of charge. You will be notified by post or email when the item is available for collection. Items are held on the reservations shelves for a period of ten days from the date the item was allocated.

Members of the library can access the online catalogue and place reservations on items using their library card number and PIN, or staff at any service desk will reserve items upon request.

Inter-Library Loans

The Inter-Library Loans Service

Any library, no matter how large, cannot expect to satisfy all demands from its own resources. It may be possible to obtain material not held by Blacktown City Libraries through an Australian and worldwide system known as Inter-Library Loans or Document Delivery.

The goal of the Inter-Library Loan Service is to serve the needs of library customers with timely retrieval of items not available locally.

To Request An Item

Ask any staff member to request an Inter-Library Loans item. Library staff will then;

  • Verify the details of the item. This includes the spelling of the author's name, title and publisher.
  • Identify a location which holds the item and the place a request to borrow the item. It may take more than one attempt to retrieve your item.
  • Notify you when the item arrives and is ready for collection, or advise you if the item is not obtainable.

Costs

All requests will incur a non-refundable processing charge.

Many items may be sourced free of a lending charge, but please note that University, TAFE and private libraries charge for lending their items. The Inter-Library Loans officer will advise you in the event that charges may apply.
